Vaccinations

We give a full health check and a 2-part vaccination course for kittens. This involves a first vaccine being given as young as 9 weeks of age and then a second 3-4 weeks later. These vaccinations give protection against cat flu, Enteritis and Leukaemia.

Your kitten will then need annual boosters to keep it protected. We will send reminders when your kitten’s boosters are due.

We keep a complete record of all the vaccinations and any treatment your kitten has, so we have a full history and can make sure your kitten is not over-vaccinated. (For more information on the data we keep and what we do with it, please see Terms & Conditions.)

Worming

Kittens should be wormed every month. We will recommend the right course of treatment on an individual basis, according to your cat’s weight, size, age and habits.

Flea Prevention

From 6 weeks of age we recommend the use of flea treatments. Specific information will be given to you during your visit. Household flea treatments are also available so, speak to a member of staff who will be happy to give advice.

Did you know that routine vaccines, flea treatments and worming, as well as lots of other things your kitten needs, are included in our Pet Health Club membership?

Speak to a member of the team to see how we can help you keep on top of all your kitten’s preventative care and spread the costs.

Diet

Just like humans, kittens and cats need a good, balanced diet to promote good health, healthier teeth, better growth and regular, well-formed motions. We recommend a dry, complete kitten food with the added benefit that the dry food will help with keeping their teeth clean. We keep a choice in stock.

Teeth

Starting to brush your kitten’s teeth from an early age has clear benefits and can quickly become part of their daily routine. This will help keep their teeth and gums healthy and hopefully prevent the need for dental treatment later in life. We stock a range of toothpaste, brushes, oral care food and dental chews. Our nurses also hold complimentary nurse clinics with helpful tips on looking after your pet’s teeth.

Neutering

Male and female cats can be neutered from a very young age, though many people feel it is better to wait until 4-6 months of age, unless breeding is intended. Speak to the team about when to schedule this in.

Healthcare Plan

We are able to offer you membership to our Pet Health Club, which covers your cat for all routine treatments such as vaccinations, worming and flea control. This is set up as a monthly direct debit, spreading the cost over the year. This is a preventative healthcare scheme which we would definitely recommend.

Speak to a member of the team for more information and to sign up, or you can sign up online at www.thepethealthclub.co.uk.

Identification

We sell a range of identification tags and collars. Collars with a quick release section are the safest for kittens and any tag should show appropriate contact details. Any other information is optional. However, the most reliable form of identification is a microchip. This is a tiny microchip implanted beneath the skin, normally in the scruff of the neck, which can be detected by a scanner, generally used by Vets and Rescue Centres. All the owners’ details are recorded on a national computer database, enabling you and your pet to be reunited as quickly as possible should they get lost.
